ESTELLA TO LOS ARCOS

Saturday 27th February 2010 (20.4 ks)
Arrived at 11:10am after leaving Estella at 7:35am (3hrs 35mins).
I made very good time, as I had to keep moving against the cold, especially after Villamayor. It rained for the whole journey, though not so heavy for the last 8 ks, and never teaming down, though consistent throughout. The worst thing was the wind - at times quite strong and threatening, especially as I approached Villamayor along the ridge and as I left the village (around 8ks into the walk). It was actually the chill factor that made the walk uncomfortable. Last time I walked with Peter Sherman on this day's journey from after the monastery at Irache to Los Arcos. It was a warmish day, and the 10ks or so from Villamayor until 2 ks from Los Arcos seemed to strech on forever. I remeber having negative sensations on this part. However, I also remember going back to the outskirts of the town to meet Dennis Crameri, and his first words were, "What a lovely walk." Those words rang tue for me today, despite the discomfort caused by weather conditions. (From diary)
